Brewing Industry Experience
As Director R&D at South African Breweries in the 70’s, Dr. Murray’s main contribution was the development of a new cost-effective brewing process. The success of this work still forms the basis of the brewing process that makes SAB one of the most efficient brewers in the world. With Grand Metropolitan (now Diageo) his main challenge as Technical Director of the Brewing Division was new brand development where he worked in intimate association with IDV. On joining the Fosters-Courage Group operations in the UK as General Manager-Integration and Engineering, his main role was devoted to the management of change and the rationalising of UK operations. As an Associate Director of Brewing Research International, he has been engaged in international consultancy in maltings, brewing, brands management and project management.
